Armed with a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication from Swinburne University of Technology, a Diploma in Business Administration, and a Graduate Certificate in Management from Victoria University, Sia was well-prepared to take on the evolving challenges of corporate and strategic communication.
From Storytelling to Strategy: A Career of Impact
Sia’s early career saw her transitioning from journalism and PR into corporate communication, a move that allowed her to blend storytelling with strategic influence. Over the years, she honed her expertise in internal communication, change management, and leadership development, holding key roles across government and corporate sectors.
Her leadership at the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) was a turning point. As Director of Communication and Cultural Change, she played a crucial role in designing and implementing a shared services model that reshaped how the organization approached communication. This experience cemented her belief in the power of alignment the idea that true impact happens when individuals, teams, and leadership operate from a shared vision.
We’re obsessed with helping leaders build high-performing and thriving teams… and none of this can happen without alignment,” she says. This philosophy shaped the foundation of The Alignment People, which she co-founded to bring this vision to life.
Championing the Profession: Building a Legacy in Communication
Sia’s impact extends far beyond her own career. As Managing Partner at the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence, she has dedicated herself to elevating the profession, empowering communication professionals, and driving industry-wide transformation.
Her work has been recognized with more than 50 awards for strategic communication excellence and leadership, including multiple IABC Gold Quill Awards the global standard for excellence in business communication, recognizing outstanding strategy, creativity, and impact.
Her influence also reaches a global level. She played a pivotal role in the Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC), serving as Chair, where she helped shape internationally recognized communication standards. Notably, she is one of the first Australians to achieve the Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP) certification, further solidifying her expertise in the field.
