“Building relationships and telling authentic stories is at the core of what I do,” Patricia explains.
Early Beginnings: A Passion for Storytelling
Patricia’s passion for media and communication began early. Growing up in Miami, she was fascinated by the stories in the newspapers that filled her home. This love of storytelling inspired her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Barry University, where she sharpened her skills. Patricia went on to further her education at the University of Michigan as a Fellow in Communication and Media Studies. This blend of formal education and hands-on experience in her field provided Patricia with the tools necessary to navigate the fast-paced world of journalism and communications.
“I was motivated by the idea of creating something from the ground up,” Patricia often reflects. This mindset would define her entire career, beginning with her first step into the professional world.
The First Step: A Secretary at CNN
After graduating from college, Patricia’s career took off at CNN, where she started as a secretary. While some might have viewed this position as an entry-level role, Patricia saw it as an invaluable opportunity.
And she was right. Working diligently, Patricia quickly moved up the ranks, seizing every opportunity that came her way. One of her most defining career moments was pioneering CNN’s first American news bureau in Havana, Cuba—a historic accomplishment. This achievement, coupled with her coverage of significant world events such as the Elian Gonzalez crisis and the Cuban Rafter Crisis, solidified Patricia’s reputation as a trailblazer in journalism.
“It was a calculated risk, met with skepticism, but one that I believed would set me on the path to pursuing my wildest dreams,” Patricia recalls.
Pioneering Media and Public Relations
As Patricia’s career evolved, she transitioned from the fast-paced world of news into the equally dynamic field of public relations. Her experience working for major networks like CNN and NBC News provided her with an in-depth understanding of the media industry, but her passion for storytelling found a new home in public relations. She went on to hold several leadership roles, including Public Relations Manager at Tenet Healthcare and Account Executive at Boardroom Communications, where her public relations journey truly began.
During her time at Tenet Healthcare, Patricia managed media inquiries for five hospitals across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Her ability to proactively pitch news stories, manage media crises, and handle complex communications during significant events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, showcased her exceptional leadership and communication skills.
“I am a woman who builds relationships as a key part of my business strategy,” Patricia says, emphasizing her focus on creating meaningful connections throughout her career.
“I am an observer of people and see trends.” This insight has become one of her core strengths, helping her navigate and excel in both media and public relations.
Founding Patty Vila Media & Events

Her achievements extend beyond the professional realm, as Patricia also dedicates significant time to community service. She has been a passionate advocate for vulnerable populations throughout her career, from her efforts to address homelessness in Miami-Dade County to her recent work on the Elderly Affairs Committee for the Town of Miami Lakes.
“I am honored to join the Elderly Affairs Committee and look forward to contributing to the well-being of our senior citizens,” she says, highlighting her commitment to social causes.
