Early Education and Academic Foundation

Ammar Hussain Jaffri, a distinguished figure in cybersecurity and digital innovation, began his journey with a robust academic foundation. He earned his Master of Science in Computer Science from Preston University, Islamabad, and a Master of Science in Statistics from the University of Punjab, Lahore. His academic achievements laid the groundwork for a career marked by groundbreaking contributions to the field of information security and cyber governance.

The Genesis of a Cybersecurity Leader

Jaffri’s professional journey commenced in the early 1980s when he joined the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in Islamabad as a Director of Information Technology. In this role, he spearheaded technology-based investigations crucial to national security. His expertise in managing complex cyber threats and developing advanced systems was instrumental in shaping Pakistan’s early cybersecurity framework.

Transitioning from this foundational role, Jaffri moved to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), where he served as Addl. Director General from 2002 to 2008. Here, he was pivotal in establishing the National Response Centre for Cybercrime (NR3C), an initiative that revolutionized Pakistan’s approach to combating cybercrime. His leadership in creating the Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) and Digital Forensic Labs set new standards for cybercrime investigations and border control operations.

In 2010, Jaffri embarked on a new venture by founding Security Experts (pvt) Ltd. As Founder and CEO, he provided comprehensive services in information security, digital forensics, and cyber threat assessment. His firm became a cornerstone in Pakistan’s cybersecurity landscape, offering consultancy and regulatory enforcement services that addressed evolving digital threats.

Jaffri’s vision extended beyond cybersecurity to global sustainability, leading to the establishment of SDGs Academy in 2018. This organization focuses on aligning national policies with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. His commitment to socio-economic change is evident from his efforts in training and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at integrating SDGs into public and private sector strategies.

In 2017, Jaffri founded the IoT Centre of Pakistan, a testament to his forward-thinking approach. The center focuses on Industrial Revolution 4.0, business automation, and IoT applications in agriculture and telemedicine. This initiative underscores his dedication to leveraging emerging technologies for enhancing operational efficiencies and addressing contemporary challenges.

Jaffri’s leadership is also reflected in his role as the Founder and Executive Director of the Centre for Information Technology (pvt) Ltd. Established in 2010, the center was one of the first private sector training institutes in IT, providing crucial training in information security and cybersecurity.

His impact on the cybersecurity community is further exemplified by his founding of the Pakistan Information Security Association (PISA) in 2013. As Founder Chairman, Jaffri pioneered the concept of the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Pakistan and fostered international collaborations with Global CERTs, enhancing Pakistan’s global cybersecurity posture.

Jaffri’s contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Excellence Award at the Information Security Conference and the Leadership in Information Security Award. Currently, Jaffri continues to drive innovation and security as the President of ISACA Chapter Islamabad. His recent initiatives include aligning emerging technologies, particularly AI, with cybersecurity practices and engaging university students to prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century.
