Based in New Westminster, British Columbia, Rani’s diverse career journey spans over two decades, marked by leadership in global brands, entrepreneurial ventures, and now, a deep commitment to helping midlife women redefine their paths. Let’s explore the key milestones that shaped Rani’s remarkable journey.
A Passion for Learning: Educational Foundations
Rani’s professional journey is deeply rooted in her love for learning and storytelling. She began by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Museum Studies from the University of British Columbia (UBC). This educational foundation instilled in her a deep understanding of human behavior, which later became an asset in her career coaching and leadership roles. Her next step was pursuing a Master’s Degree in Publishing from Simon Fraser University, where she graduated as a Graduate Fellow.
Reflecting on the pivotal role education played in her career, Rani often emphasizes the value of a strong educational base, stating:
“Education isn’t just about gaining knowledge—it’s about understanding how to apply it effectively in the real world.”
This insight would guide her throughout her multifaceted career.
Global Insights: Living and Teaching in Japan
Before diving into the corporate world, Rani embraced an international experience that would shape her leadership style. She moved to Japan, where she taught English to business professionals, including those at Toyota. Living in Japan gave Rani a deep appreciation for cross-cultural communication and global business dynamics, skills she would later apply in her work with multinational corporations.
Her time in Japan also fostered a passion for helping others navigate their own professional and personal journeys, an instinct she would later channel into her coaching practice.
“Living abroad forces you to adapt quickly, but it also teaches you to listen and understand different perspectives—a key leadership skill,” she notes.
Leading in the Corporate World: Senior Producer and Marketing Expert
Upon returning to Canada, Rani took on increasingly senior roles in the marketing and digital media sectors. Her work as Senior Producer for some of the world’s leading brands—including CBC, Nike, Nintendo, Unilever, and Clorox—shaped her into a visionary leader. At CBC, Rani led award-winning projects for youth and entertainment platforms, where she managed teams, handled multimillion-dollar budgets, and directed complex digital initiatives.
During her tenure at Blast Radius, Rani spearheaded global web initiatives for Nike. As the Senior Project Manager, she was responsible for handling client relations, strategic planning, and project execution. This period not only strengthened her leadership abilities but also deepened her understanding of digital marketing and client management.
“In the fast-paced world of digital media, you need to think three steps ahead and be ready to pivot at a moment’s notice,” Rani shares.
Entrepreneurial Ventures: Muttnik and The Bloom Bloom Room
Rani’s entrepreneurial spirit soon led her to explore new horizons. In 2006, she founded Muttnik, a dog services company that grew into a respected franchise across two provinces. For seven years, Rani not only managed day-to-day operations but also became a professional dog trainer, developing a strong community of dog lovers and building a brand that was deeply respected in the canine community. Reflecting on her entrepreneurial journey, Rani believes that adaptability is key to success.
“Every business comes with its own set of challenges, but the ability to adapt and think creatively is what keeps you moving forward,” she says.
In addition to Muttnik, Rani founded The Bloom Bloom Room, an award-winning floral boutique in New Westminster. The boutique quickly gained recognition, winning the We Heart Local BC award and the Tri Cities A-List Best Florist title. Despite its success, Rani made the tough decision to close the shop just before the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Sometimes, stepping away from a business is the best decision you can make. It allows you to pivot and pursue new opportunities,” she advises.
