“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.” ― G. Michael Hopf

I just love this quote as I believe it works in all facets of life, whether it is used in reference to sports, work, or your daily life. This quote can be used in so many ways to help motivate people, that is why I find it so inspiring.

‘You are a true success when you help other be successful’

– For me this is near and dear to my heart. This is a statement I live by each day and how I measure my ability to lead, coach and transfer knowledge. If the colleagues I work with or my family members that I provide advice and coaching to are not successful then I’ve failed as a leader.

‘Only time will tell’ – This is another quote that I have embraced for many years. The significance of it being that our ultimately destiny has been determined but we don’t know where, when or how. Life is complex and takes you on a journey through many winding roads in which you often have to climb hills and sometimes can coast down the highway. Our time is limited so make an impact while you can as your memory and legacy will be remembered.

“Strive for a life of impact rather than just pursuing success; impact lasts for ages, while success will fade on stages.”

This is my quote, which I wrote on my son’s study desk, reflects my belief. Only financial gain or influence will diminish with time, but impact transforms generations, enabling them to lead. To be impactful, you need to exercise patience.”

Aristotle said: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

When I set goals for myself, I know I will succeed not because I’m unique in any way but because I will not stop until I succeed. I’m very comfortable with my shortcomings because I know I will overcome them through my tenacious disposition.

‘The greatest danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark’ – Michelangelo

This is a perfect representation of why people get stuck in their lives and the thinking behind the instant gratification mindset and ‘everyone wins’ coaching style we see leaking into our children and workplace.
If we reach for the stars and we fall short, we need to look at this miss not as failure, but as an opportunity to learn, grow and it allows us to focus on a new approach to achievement. When people have a defeatist attitude, or an ‘everyone wins’ mindset, why should they even try approach to life, where they are ok with missing their goals because they don’t really matter and their effort will not define them nor will their results…or so they believe.

Thomas Jefferson said, “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.”

Doing nothing can’t make things happen, thus working hard creates more opportunities. And even if there is a constant rate of return on the work to luck ratio, it is only logical that more work returns more luck.

“Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it.
Establish your priorities and go to work.” -H.L. Hunt

I love this quote, it’s both a metaphor and blueprint. This is also excellent writing by Hunt. The simplest explanation is most often the best explanation.

“Only make decisions that support your self-image, self-esteem, and self-worth.” – Oprah Winfrey

I like this quote because it is saying to make decisions based on your morals, passion, happiness, ethics, and who you are as a person; not based on someone else’s expectation for your life.

“The adventure of life is to learn. The purpose of life is to grow. The nature of life is to change. The challenge of life is to overcome. The essence of life is to care. The opportunity of like is to serve. The secret of life is to dare. The spice of life is to befriend. The beauty of life is to give.”

I adore this quote because it puts life into context, which is not always easy to do — the answers to what motivates us, unlocks our long term passions, and addresses carpe diem!
